Trainin' the n00b....

The VBGG extends a cordial welcome to our newest member, Brian! Brian (BSW
= brian7) joined us as a result of a connection made at this years canoe
trip. He is an avid gamer, and was gracious enough to put us through the
paces in the Cities and Knights expansion of Catan that he
brought. Welcome Brian!

With Dana needing to nod off early the first four of us decided it was a
night for Transamerica, with the house rules variant. Bill and Karen both
ended up winning that game with a score of 11, while Collin and Dana tried
to out race each other to have the lowest score, but the counting stops at
zero! Ouch!

Beth joined up, and so did Brian, and we played more games. With Brian on
board, we played the last 3 games without the house rule. Karen had
another good game, with Brian putting on a good showing in his first VBGG
game. Final score was Karen 10, Brian 9, Collin 7, Bill 4, Dana 2, and
Beth 0.

The third game had Beth and Collin racing for the bottom, leaving Bill and
Dana to battle for the top. Bill wins by a nose! Bill 8, Dana 6, Brian 4,
Karen 4, Collin and Beth both had 0.

Final game of the night, and Dana needed to bow out, but Lisa was able to
step in and play - welcome Lisa! Unfortunately, coming in cold put Lisa at
a disadvantage. Collin and Brian battled it out, and Collin wins a close
one: Collin 9, Brian 8, Karen 6, Bill 5, Beth 5, and Lisa 0.

TransAmerica certainly is a quick one to play, and it works well in large
groups. With a growing VBGG membership, this game will be a keeper. See
you next week!
